Everyone who reads this magazine knows that we like to return to certain cities on a regular basis. Places like London, Paris and Barcelona are always bustling: cities where new businesses crop up continuously, where trends are set rather than followed, where some of the best gastronomy can be found, and where great luxury hotels cater to their guests at a level that is almost guaranteed to please. Moreover, amazing events are held year-round, one of which is Barcelona Hotel Bar Week.
As we write this article, we have returned to Barcelona after being invited by the Barcelona Hotel Bar Week PR team to experience its second edition. Taking place from 21 to 27 September, this year's event brings together more than 30 hotel bars for a packed programme of guest shifts, food and cocktail pairings, tastings, masterclasses, wellness experiences, parties and other events that demonstrate just how much the modern hotel bar has evolved beyond simply being somewhere for hotel guests to order a drink.

A full article about Barcelona Hotel Bar Week will be published later this year, but for now, let's focus on one of the places that will also be featured extensively in an article of its own: MR PORTER Restaurant, Bar & Lounge and Sir Victor, where we will be staying from 26 until 28 September for a full review… and there is plenty to talk about. Luckily, the MR PORTER and Sir Victor team was so gracious to supply us with heaps of information already, so here is what we already know – and we will make sure to cover all of these aspects in our upcoming article!
MR PORTER can be found inside Sir Victor, in the heart of Barcelona and just a few steps from Passeig de Gràcia. It is also one of the official participants in this year's Barcelona Hotel Bar Week… but calling MR PORTER simply a hotel restaurant would rather miss the point. The concept combines restaurant, cocktail bar and lounge, deliberately allowing one part of the experience to flow into the next as the day progresses.
The timing of our visit is particularly interesting, as in just a week from now, on the 2nd of October, MR PORTER Barcelona will be celebrating its seventh anniversary. During the last seven years, the combination of gastronomy, cocktails, design, music and nightlife has become central to its identity. The concept is intended to change character as the hours pass: lunch can lead into after-work drinks, dinner into cocktails, and cocktails into a considerably later night than originally intended. Its distinctive 360-degree bar and The Den play an important role in that transition.
Food, naturally, will be part of our review. MR PORTER's kitchen revolves around fire and produce, combining high-quality meats with a substantial selection of vegetable dishes and plates intended for sharing. We'll be taking a closer look at some of the dishes ourselves, rather than simply telling you what the menu promises, and the same goes for the cocktails.
We will, of course, also be reviewing Sir Victor itself and our stay, from our room and its comfort and amenities to service, breakfast and the overall atmosphere of the hotel. And because we tend to believe that the little things often tell you more about a luxury hotel than the things designed specifically to impress you, we'll be paying attention to those as well.
For now, consider this a preview rather than a verdict. We have two nights ahead of us in one of Barcelona's most interesting neighbourhoods, a restaurant and bar celebrating seven years in the city, Barcelona Hotel Bar Week in full swing, and quite a few dishes and cocktails waiting to be investigated.
